MAWE Awarded the Morgan Startup Grant!

We are thrilled to announce that on June 26, 2024, MAWE was awarded the Morgan Startup Grant supported by The Burton D. Morgan Foundation. This program aims to support new ventures looking to grow! It is given to entrepreneurs, including students, faculty, or alumni from the University of Akron or other Ohio-based universities, as well as community entrepreneurs from our northern Ohio entrepreneurial ecosystem.

In 2021, the Burton D. Morgan Foundation initiated an experimental pilot project to provide catalytic funding to nonprofit organizations for dissemination to young businesses in the form of microgrants. This effort stemmed from observations that seed funding, often totaling less than $500, could spur business momentum. The initiative, now called the Morgan Startup Grants program, has partnered with 17 organizations that have distributed 502 microgrants to 486 ventures, as of early 2024.

We plan to use this fund to support our prototyping process as we build our flagship product - The Electric Unbraider. This funding will be instrumental in advancing our development efforts and bringing our innovative solution to market.

We are incredibly grateful to The Burton D. Morgan Foundation for this support and excited about the opportunities this grant will unlock for MAWE. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey to create culturally informed technology solutions for haircare, fashion, and household appliances for African immigrants in the US.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our mission!
